the ages
BOXTALES Theatre Company is currently doing a new program called The Ages, which will run through the fall of 2008. The Ages is an intergenerational program in which Santa Barbara school students interview local elders about their lives, in an after-school format.
These life stories will then be crafted into original theatre pieces. These pieces will be offered to the schools in which they were created, and then be presented at the Lobero Theatre on the afternoon of December 13 as part of their youth programming series. The projects goal is to encourage understanding between elders and youth, promote the transmission of cultural traditions from one generation to the next, and reconnect these two populations of our community.
The project is to run from September 9 through December 13, 2009 at Washington, Hope, Monte Vista and Vieja Valley Elementary Schools.
BOXTALES Theatre Company would like to thank the following organizations for making this program possible: The Santa Barbara Foundation, the Karuna Foundation, the Ann Jackson Family Foundation, the Weingart Foundation, the Veneco Community Partneship, the High Tide Foundation, the James S. Bower Foundation, the Lobero Theatre Foundation, and the Organization Development Program using funds provided by the City of Santa Barbara in Partnership with Santa Barbara County Arts Commission.
