BOXTALES eleventh piece of original theatre is based on the Brothers Grimm tale Iron John, (familiar to some, no doubt, through the poet Robert Bly’s book of the same name that inspired the “Men’s Movement” of the1990’s).
The new piece was created by and features company members Matt Tavianini and Michael Andrews. The two-man show was conceived in the classic BOXTALES style using storytelling, live music and various movement styles to tell the tale. The story is a parable, relevant to our times, about maturing into adulthood through meaningful rites of passage. Iron John suggests that we all have a wealth of gold inside, that needs to be identified, cultivated and protected. Iron John reminds us of our connectedness to nature and the power of the imagination, and ultimately that we are at our best when we serve something bigger than ourselves.
