BOXTALES THEATRE CO, in association with THEATRE UCSB, is proud to announce its second big-stage production OM An Indian Tale of Good and Evil. Epic in scope, like The Ramayana, the East Indian poem it is derived from, OM An Indian Tale of Good and Evil premiered at the Lobero Theatre in Santa Barbara on October 1-4, 2009.
The Ramayana is one of the most important epic narratives of world literature. Filled with great romance, miraculous births, slaying of demons, abduction and supernatural warfare, it contains teachings of ancient Hindu sages, and is considered fundamental to the cultural consciousness of India. Production will include sacred & Gamelan music, aerial dance, masks, movement and clarity to an epic poem not nearly as well known in the West as it is in the East. This show is family friendly and plays to ages from 6 to 96.
BOXTALES last big stage production was Homer’s The Odyssey, which received rave reviews from critics and the public alike. Known as “the thinking man’s Cirque du Soleil,” BOXTALES brings movement, literature, masks, mime, music and high production values to every show they conceive.
OM features BOXTALES performers Michael Andrews, Jeff Mills, and Matt Tavianini with Bryan West and Jenny Sauer-Klein. The cast also includes current UCSB BFA students Angela Chandra, Jason Jackson, and Jennifer Michaels; recent UCSB BFA graduates Michaun Barner, Rudy Martinez, Allie Menzimer, and Samantha Posey; musician/composer Montino Bourbon; production designer Timo Beck with; costumer/aerial consultant Kira Jones; and light designer Jeffrey Boynton.
